How does Bariatric Surgery cause Weight Loss?
Operations designed to help you lose weight are anchored on two basic principles. One is RESTRICTIVE; limiting the amount of food that is ingested, and the other is MALABSORPTIVE; decreasing the chance for ingested food to get into the body. Some procedures utilize BOTH mechanism.
Depending on the compliance of a patient, 50 – 100% of the excess weight may be lost after surgery. A patient usually loses 1/3 of his/her obese weight in a year.
