Surgical Options

 

The most popular procedure is the Gastric Bypass which limits food intake and has some Malabsorption. Gastric Banding is increasingly performed worldwide, while Sleeve Resection of the stomach is becoming known. Both are purely restrictive procedures. Biliopancreatic Diversion with Doudenal Switch is more Malabsorptive but also Restrictive.

 

These procedures are usually done using LAPAROSCOPIC (minimal access) techniques without the need for long abdominal incision. This permits the patient to go home after only a brief hospital stay.
